Job Description
CIRES at University of Colorado Boulder seeks a Professional Research Assistant (Associate Scientist) to generate real-time ensemble cluster and sensitivity analysis tools from convection-allowing ensemble forecast datasets for the Weather Prediction Center (WPC), supporting NWS operational forecasters. The role involves developing and transitioning convection-allowing probabilistic forecast tools for short-range weather hazards into operations, maintaining WPC's operational forecast tools, and producing training materials for new probabilistic forecast products. The position is onsite at WPC in College Park, MD (NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction). Requires a bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or related field with two years of experience, or a master's. Experience with large meteorological datasets (GRIB, NetCDF) and Linux/HPC environments required. CIRES is a cooperative institute between NOAA and CU Boulder.
