Overview
As a Senior Meteorologist with the Air Force Materiel Command, you'll integrate atmospheric science expertise into the Department of Defense weapons systems acquisition lifecycle. This role requires you to provide expert meteorological consultation on how weather and atmospheric conditions impact current and emerging defense technologies, working directly with senior leaders, program managers, and engineers to ensure systems perform effectively across all environmental conditions.
Job Description
Integrate meteorological expertise into Department of Defense weapons systems acquisition lifecycle. Provide expert consultation on how atmospheric conditions affect current and emerging technologies across the full spectrum of weapon systems. Duties include: developing and planning environmental requirements integration; assessing meteorological instrumentation and weather observing/forecasting needs for systems under development; conducting high-confidence meteorological analyses using analytical tools and historical data; briefing senior leaders, program managers, and engineers on atmospheric impacts; facilitating branch operations and coordinating across disciplines. Requires professional knowledge spanning climatology, radiative transfer, atmospheric dynamics, space environment, forecasting, and environmental modeling — applied to DoD acquisition, capability development, and program documentation.
Requires GS-13 level (or equivalent) specialized experience at next lower grade (GS-12), including advanced working knowledge in physical and applied climatology, synoptic meteorology, dynamic meteorology, atmospheric physics, satellite meteorology, and related disciplines; knowledge of DoD acquisition lifecycle and guidelines; skill in analytical tools, database management, and computer simulation; ability to communicate complex meteorological concepts to non-meteorologist audiences.
