Overview
Weather on the Way is seeking a broadcast meteorologist to host a YouTube show that helps drivers make informed travel decisions by delivering timely weather forecasts for interstate routes. This remote role combines meteorological expertise with video content creation, requiring you to monitor storm systems and produce engaging episodes that reach audiences 24-48 hours before they travel.
Job Description
Weather on the Way is an iOS and CarPlay road conditions app that shows weather for points along a driving route at the hour you will be there, so drivers can pick the best time to leave to avoid the storm. We are starting a YouTube show that helps make this decision, and we are looking for a person to run and present it.
What You Will Do
- Monitor NWS's Storm Prediction Center and other NWS products against the main Interstate travel corridors and flag when there is a potential for significant impact to travel
- Deliver a storm episode within 6–12 hours of the storm conditions being apparent, so it's live 24–48 h before people leave, to allow them to plan their trip
- Record on your own equipment; the team handles editing, thumbnails, and posting
- On quiet weeks with no significant storms, record more general explainer videos not necessarily tied to current conditions (e.g., "How to time the I-70 drive in a winter")
- Special episodes for travel around holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas
- Lighter schedule in spring and summer; portfolio use permitted
Who We Are Looking For
- A Meteorology or Atmospheric Science degree (even if not yet finished) or broadcast forecasting experience
- Ability to fluently read WPC and NWS products, explain storm timing, and deliver engaging video content
- Comfortable unscripted on camera with a map
- Broadcast experience or a professional/personal YouTube channel to showcase
- Available on short notice on weekdays and sometimes weekends in winter
- A recording setup with clean audio and video; ability to screen-record an iPhone or iPad
- Knowledge of US winter weather, especially around its effect on road travel, road closures, and safety
Nice to Have: editing skills, existing audience, regular experience of riding motorcycles or towing.
Application: Send a 3-minute video where you make a call on one travel corridor this week. Tell us when you would leave and why. You can use the app or other resources. Add a link to anything you have done on air or online and a short description of your setup, availability, and why you are a perfect candidate. Applications close October 9, 2026.
