Overview
This is a mid-level Operational Forecaster position with the National Weather Service, a division of NOAA, based at one of five regional offices across the Northeast. You'll integrate meteorological data with societal risk assessment to produce impact-based warnings and forecasts that protect public safety, while providing specialized decision support services to emergency management and public safety partners.
Job Description
Integrate forecast weather, water, and climate hazards with associated societal risks to produce and communicate life-saving impact-based warnings, advisories, outlooks, and general forecasts. Provide Impact Based Decision Support Services (IDSS) including tailored products, specialized notifications, remote briefings, and on-site deployments to core partners in public safety. Collect, assess, analyze, and integrate environmental data to forecast critical elements at global, synoptic, and meso-scales. Collaborate with WFO/NCEP colleagues to improve day-to-day operational functions.
Duties described at GS-09 level; GS-05 and GS-07 are developmental leading to Full Performance Level (FPL) GS-12. Rotating shift work required; 24/7 WFO operations. Low Risk Security Clearance required.
