This mid-level position offers a career path from GS-05 to GS-12 within NOAA, requiring rotating shift work at one of 80+ Weather Forecast Offices across the United States.
Job Description
Integrate forecast weather, water, and climate hazards with associated societal risks to produce and communicate life-saving impact-based warnings, advisories, outlooks and general forecasts. Collect, assess, analyze, and integrate a complete set of environmental data to provide forecasts at global, synoptic, and meso scales. Provide Impact Based Decision Support Services (IDSS) including tailored products, specialized notifications, remote briefings, and on-site deployments to core partners in public safety.
Duties described at GS-09 level; developmental levels GS-05 and GS-07 lead to Full Performance Level GS-12. Rotating shift work required; WFO and NCEP operate 24/7.
Key Requirements: U.S. citizenship required. Low Risk Security Clearance required. PCS relocation expenses not authorized.
Basic Requirements: Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or natural science with 24+ semester hours in atmospheric science including atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, analysis and prediction of weather systems, physical meteorology, remote sensing, physics (with lab), differential equations, and appropriate physical science electives. Alternates accepted.
