Muon Space is seeking a Remote Sensing Data Scientist to develop derived data products from infrared imaging missions focused on wildfire detection, weather characterization, and environmental monitoring. In this mid-level role, you'll design and implement scalable algorithms to process multispectral infrared imagery into geospatial products while collaborating with senior scientists and engaging with technical stakeholders.
Job Description
Muon Space is building a family of infrared imaging missions for global wildfire detection, weather and cloud characterization, and space-based environmental monitoring. The IR Data Products team builds the analytics system processing data from Muon's custom multispectral imaging instruments into derived data products.
** Responsibilities **
- Build derived data products from Muon's infrared imaging missions (FireSat, SBEM)
- Implement scalable algorithms for processing and analyzing multispectral infrared imagery into derived geospatial products
- Contribute to derived product design under senior scientists and product owners
- Write production-ready code integrated into customer-facing data product pipelines
- Support engagement with customer technical stakeholders including Technical Interchange Meetings
** Qualifications **
- PhD; or MS with 3+ years industry experience; or BS with 5+ years industry experience
- Hands-on experience building geospatial data products from novel imaging instruments
- Strong Python development skills (Xarray, GDAL, COGs)
- Experience with geospatial data formats and cloud-native workflows (AWS preferred)
- Preferred: infrared sensing, wildfire monitoring, meteorology, or environmental remote sensing domain expertise
Salary: $171,000–$191,000 + equity
