Job Description
Muon Space is building a family of infrared imaging missions for global wildfire detection, weather and cloud characterization, and space-based environmental monitoring. The IR Data Products team seeks a Senior Remote Sensing Data Scientist to build the on-orbit calibration system for FireSat (wildfire detection constellation) and SBEM (next-gen environmental monitoring payload).
Key work: design and implement radiometric calibration of multispectral IR imagery from Muon's spacecraft; commission and calibrate FireSat IOC constellation (Q3 2026 launch); develop calibration program for SBEM infrared camera (2027 launch); implement and operate production calibration pipelines.
Qualifications: PhD + 3yr industry exp, or MS + 6yr, or BS + 8yr; 4+ years calibrating imaging instruments; strong Python skills; experience with on-orbit instrument calibration; mid-wave IR experience preferred.
Salary: $138,000–$198,000 + equity + full benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k, 3 weeks PTO, parental leave).
